We Were Liars by E. Lockhart

Title: We Were Liars

Author: E. Lockhart

Genre: Contemporary

Publication date: May 13, 2014

A beautiful and distinguished family.
A private island.
A brilliant, damaged girl; a passionate, political boy.
A group of four friends—the Liars—whose friendship turns destructive.
A revolution. An accident. A secret.
Lies upon lies.
True love.
The truth.

This book was recommended to me by a friend who insisted that it was amazing and that I wouldn’t regret reading it. So, I decided to pick it up. Luckily, I was in the mood for a contemporary read and it was pretty short. I know many readers didn’t like this book but I personally loved it! (And I might have cried at the end)

“We are liars. We are beautiful and privileged. We are cracked and broken.”

I read the story and didn’t think much about what the ending could be. At some point I wanted to skip to the end just to find out what it was but I had some self restraint. The story wasn’t fast and it wasn’t slow either. It was just enough to keep me interested. Though I think the fact that I knew there would be a plot twist might have contributed to that.

Overall, I really loved this book. One of my favorite Standalones. Some readers guessed the ending and some people didn’t (like me) but I think you should definitely give this book a try.
