5 of my most anticipated 2020 reads

Happy first day of 2020!

The year went by so quickly. I can’t believe it’s 2020 already. But to say I’m excited would be an understatement. 2019 was a strange year for me and I’m looking forward to starting the new year fresh, and with tons of new books to read! So many amazing books are being released this year and I already have a ton of them on my to be read list (it never ends). Here are some 2020 titles that I can’t wait to get to.

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes by Suzanne Collins

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes will revisit the world of Panem sixty-four years before the events of The Hunger Games, starting on the morning of the reaping of the Tenth Hunger Games.

This book right here, is one I still can’t believe we are getting! I read The Hunger Games so long ago but it’s one of the series that really impacted my reading life. The story is one I remember until now. I don’t really know what to expect from this but I’m so here for it. Were you excited when you heard about this title?

Chain of Gold by Cassandra Clare

Welcome to Edwardian London, a time of electric lights and long shadows, the celebration of artistic beauty and the wild pursuit of pleasure, with demons waiting in the dark. For years there has been peace in the Shadowhunter world. James and Lucie Herondale, children of the famous Will and Tessa, have grown up in an idyll with their loving friends and family, listening to stories of good defeating evil and love conquering all. But everything changes when the Blackthorn and Carstairs families come to London…and so does a remorseless and inescapable plague.

James Herondale longs for a great love, and thinks he has found it in the beautiful, mysterious Grace Blackthorn. Cordelia Carstairs is desperate to become a hero, save her family from ruin, and keep her secret love for James hidden. When disaster strikes the Shadowhunters, James, Cordelia and their friends are plunged into a wild adventure which will reveal dark and incredible powers, and the true cruel price of being a hero…and falling in love.

This book is on the highest pedestal possible. The Infernal Devices is one of my favorite trilogies (I mean everything Cassandra Clare writes is but still..). The fact that we get to experience London again is just so thrilling and I truly can’t wait!

The Silvered Serpents by Roshani Chokshi

45044785. sy475

Séverin and his team members might have successfully thwarted the Fallen House, but victory came at a terrible cost ― one that still haunts all of them. Desperate to make amends, Séverin pursues a dangerous lead to find a long lost artifact rumored to grant its possessor the power of God.

Their hunt lures them far from Paris, and into icy heart of Russia where crystalline ice animals stalk forgotten mansions, broken goddesses carry deadly secrets, and a string of unsolved murders makes the crew question whether an ancient myth is a myth after all.

As hidden secrets come to the light and the ghosts of the past catch up to them, the crew will discover new dimensions of themselves. But what they find out may lead them down paths they never imagined.

A tale of love and betrayal as the crew risks their lives for one last job.

I’ve been obsessed with The Gilded Wolves since I read it last year. The way it ended had me thinking about all the possibilities. It drove me crazy. I know the date for this has been pushed to September but I’m sure it’s worth the wait!

Bone Crier’s Moon by Kathryn Purdie

Bone Criers have a sacred duty. They alone can keep the dead from preying on the living. But their power to ferry the spirits of the dead into goddess Elara’s Night Heavens or Tyrus’s Underworld comes from sacrifice. The gods demand a promise of dedication. And that promise comes at the cost of the Bone Criers’ one true love.

Ailesse has been prepared since birth to become the matriarch of the Bone Criers, a mysterious famille of women who use strengths drawn from animal bones to ferry dead souls. But first she must complete her rite of passage and kill the boy she’s also destined to love.

Bastien’s father was slain by a Bone Crier and he’s been seeking revenge ever since. Yet when he finally captures one, his vengeance will have to wait. Ailesse’s ritual has begun and now their fates are entwined—in life and in death.

Sabine has never had the stomach for the Bone Criers’ work. But when her best friend Ailesse is taken captive, Sabine will do whatever it takes to save her, even if it means defying their traditions—and their matriarch—to break the bond between Ailesse and Bastien. Before they all die.

Ah the excitement! This sounds so unique and can we talk about tat beautiful cover?

Seven Deadly Shadows by Courtney Alameda and Valynne E. Maetani

31248158. sy475

Kira Fujikawa has always been a girl on the fringe. Bullied by her peers and ignored by her parents, the only place Kira’s ever felt at home is at her grandfather’s Shinto shrine, where she trains to be a priestess.

But Kira’s life is shattered on the night her family’s shrine is attacked by a vicious band of yokai demons. With the help of Shiro—the shrine’s gorgeous half-fox, half-boy kitsune—Kira discovers that her shrine harbors an ancient artifact of great power . . . one the yokai and their demon lord, Shuten-doji, will use to bring down an everlasting darkness upon the world.

Unable to face the Shuten-doji and his minions on her own, Kira enlists the aid of seven ruthless shinigami—or death gods—to help stop the brutal destruction of humankind. But some of the death gods aren’t everything they initially seemed, nor as loyal to Kira’s cause as they first appeared.

With war drawing nearer by the day, Kira realizes that if this unlikely band of heroes is going to survive, they’re going to have to learn to work together, confront their demons, and rise as one to face an army of unimaginable evil.

This translated in my head as anime in book form and I’m absolutely here for it.

Of course these aren’t all the titles that I’m excited for but the ones that I’m going to choose for this post are these.

  1. I definitely need to reread The Hunger Games trilogy before the new book comes out. It’ll be very nostalgic for sure, but I’m really excited. I also need to complete my reread of The Shadowhunter Chronicles (and my first read of The Dark Artifices) before Chain of Gold comes out. Seeing Tessa and Will as parents? All these characters I fell in love with in The Infernal Devices? My heart is not ready for all the emotions. And of course, The Silvered Serpents! I loved The Gilded Wolves and I was so sad when the sequel’s release was pushed back by so many months. Still, I’m excited and I will definitely pick it up!

    • It has been ages since I read The hunger Games too. Not sure if I’ll be rereading but I guess it could be a possibility. Ooh The Dark Artifices is super good! I hope you enjoy it. I have a feeling we’ll both be crying quite a lot when Chain of Gold comes out 😭 The Gilded Wolves was so good! Roshani Chokshi really brought amazing characters to life. I bet The Silvered Serpents is going to be amazing!
