I read The Beckoning Shadow last year, and to say that it’s one of my favorite books ever is an understatement. I fell in love with the story that Katharyn Blair created in this book. I loved the characters, the setting, and just everything was perfect to me. So, today’s post is me trying to persuade all of you to read this fantastic book!
Vesper Montgomery can summon your worst fear and turn it into a reality—but she’s learned the hard way that it’s an addicting and dangerous power. One wrong move and you could hurt someone you love. But when she earns a spot in the Tournament of the Unraveling, where competitors battle it out for a chance to rewrite the past, Vesper finally has a shot to reverse the mistakes that have changed her forever. She turns to Sam Hardy, a former MMA fighter who’s also carrying a tragedy he desperately wants to undo. However, helping heal Sam’s heart will mean breaking her own, and the competition forces her to master her powers—powers she has been terrified of since they destroyed her life.
Reason #1: Unique and out of the box story
I’ve read quite a few books with powers and special ability but this one was so unique! I felt like it took powers to a different level and the events that went on were just so fun! The MMA incorporation was also new, and I found that I really enjoyed it.
Reason #2: A badass main character with a fantabulous name
Have you ever heard of a character names Vesper? I don’t know about you but I sure haven’t and I loved it! Vesper is such a great name and The Beckoning Shadow revolves around the greatest badass character you ever did meet. I’ll admit I had high expectations when I started the book (which turned out to be right so yay for me) but I never really thought about whether I’d like the MC or not. Vesper became one of my absolute favorites! The moment I closed the book I knew that she would always be a favorite.
Reason #3: Magic throw down
Does Katharyn Blair know how to write a really good magic throw down? yes, yes she does. She also knows how to write an epic book in general which should be reason enough to get behind this book. But she did an amazing job writing the fight and in the cage scenes. I was hooked and kept anticipating more.
In conclusion dear friends, Katharyn Blair wrote a fantastic first book, and I’ve already pledged that I will read every book she writes from now on. The reasons I listed above are only some points that I wanted to make but this book is truly a wonderful one.
