Weekly Reading Blog | Falling down the middle grade books hole and finishing up another classic

January so far has been great and this week was no exception. I picked up a lot of books but I also finished up a lot of them. Most of them were really great reads and I read quite a few middle grade titles. I’m finally reading more of the genre and I’m enjoying myself immensely. Read on to see what I picked up!

Books Picked Up

Sunday – January 17

Progress: Started Shirley and Jamila Save Their Summer + 30% of Little Women + 14% of Persuasion

Today brought a wide range of books to start. I tried reading a few aside from the ones I’ve mentioned in my progress but found I wasn’t really in the mood for most of them. I think I’m going to be in a classics mood for a while. Though middle grade is slowly creeping up on me. I continued reading Little Women which I’m really enjoying so far. It’s a very feel good book and the March sisters are just all so lovely, I love every one of them. Also, ever since I finished Pride and Prejudice I’ve been wanting to pick up Persuasion and so I caved today and just started it. I’m really enjoying Jane Austen’s writing a lot more than I thought I would. Pretty convinced I’ll be reading all her work soon.

Monday – January 18

Progress: Finished Shirley and Jamila Save Their Summer + 52% of Persuasion + 30% of Any Day with You

Finished reading Shirley and Jamila Save Their Summer which was a cute little graphic novel (thank you PRH International for the gifted copy). I also read more of Persuasion and I’ve come down to a really interesting realization. Despite the fact that there isn’t really much going on in the book as of now, I’m somehow never bored. The same things happened with P&P. I get bored with certain books easily but I don’t feel that way with Jane Austen’s books. I’m very close to finishing it and I think I’ll be able to do that in another day or two maybe?

It’s pretty late as I’m updating this but I started a middle grade which is Any Day with You. It was recommended to my by the wonderful Yade. I’m loving it so much so far! It’s so wholesome and so diverse. I’m loving it!

Tuesday – January 19

Progress: Finished reading Any Day with You + Finished reading Persuasion

Today was a great day! I spent the morning reading the cutest middle grade ever, Any Day with You and I adored it! Also went out for a walk with my family by the beach and the weather was amazing. I also finished Persuasion! My second classic of the year. I didn’t love it as much as Pride and Prejudice but it was still really good.

Wednesday – January 20

Progress: Started and finished reading Almond + 4% of Anna Karenina

Started reading Almond today and it was such heartfelt book! Really wasn’t expecting that when I went into it. Really enjoyed it and finished it within one sitting. Also started Anna Karenina which is a very chunky book. I’m planning on reading it at my own pace even if it takes me a month or two. The chapters are short so it’s easy to read. I also thought the language would be more difficult but it’s surprisingly easier to read than I thought.

Thursday – January 21

No reading done whatsoever. Woke up late and then went out so there was no reading time at all.

Friday – January 22

Progress: Started and finished Land of the Cranes

Land of the Cranes was such an emotional read. My heart hurt so much reading in. The book is written in verse which made it even more powerful and impactful I believe. Sometimes fewer words really hit home.

Saturday – January 23

Progress: Finished Amina’s Voice

Amina’s Voice was a cute read! I personally thought there would be a tiny bit more to it but regardless I really enjoyed it. This is probably my last book of the week. I don’t have time to fit in another but reading 6 books this week was great! Honestly ever since I started the year with only 1 book as my reading goal I feel like reading has been a lot more enjoyable. There’s no stress whatsoever (which is how it should be) and I’m picking up books that I’m in the mood for instead of following my tbr so closely and all. I hope you all had a great reading week too!
