Movie Review | Black Widow (2021)

Guess who watched Black Widow today? Gosh I have so many thoughts on this amazing movie. Black widow went through multiple release date changes and as frustrating as that was, it was so worth the wait! Click on the read more button below to read my thoughts.

Might have some slight spoilers

Black Widow is without a doubt one of my favourite Marvel characters. I feel like this movie was long overdue. Black Widow has always had a complex back story and waiting for Marvel to adapt that has been torture, but we finally got something! I booked my ticket the moment I found out they were available. Lets just say that it was one of the best cinema experiences I’v ever had.

I went into this with high expectations, and I was not disappointed. I just knew I would love this movie the moment I watched the trailers. I’ve always wanted them to dive into Nat’s history and they did such an amazing job here! It wasn’t comic book accurate but I absolutely loved it. The opening scenes were so powerful to me. I felt so many things right from the start. The little flashbacks and bits and pieces of what she and her sister went through. I really wish we had seen a little more into it though. It might have been a bit painful to watch so maybe that’s why the director didn’t include scenes like that? Either way what we were given was pretty good.

I loved the action sequences! Black Widow is one of the coolest characters out there (That’s a fact In my humble opinion) and watching her fight was amazing. Of course the fighting in general was really fantastic. Especially the scene between Nat and Yelena when they first meet at the beginning. Epic. Yelena was such a wonderful element in the story too. I loved all her scenes and appearances. Her lines added some nice relief in between the heavier moments. I’m so happy we finally get more badass female characters in the Marvel cinematic universe!

The family dynamic was a little strange and tense but I honestly loved them. A lot of moments were anger worthy to be completely honest but they brought themselves together in their own strange way.

Don’t even get me started on the acting! I don’t think I can even imagine anyone to play Nat other than Scarlett Johansson. She brings the character to life so perfectly and completely. Florence Pugh is an absolute star! With the way the movie ended I’m so happy we’ll be seeing more of her in the Marvel universe. Not sure where but I’d be happy with her anywhere. Rachel Weisz was amazing, as was David Harbour.

The whole story brought to us here was amazing. I loved it all so much. I do wish we had been told how Nat had managed to escape the Red Room in the first place, and all those little details. Honestly, I’m just so happy to be watching another Marvel movie since the pandemic hit. It brought so much happiness, especially since we’re still going through the pandemic now.

Overall, the movie had a darker tone than some of the other Marvel movies but it was perfect. Definitely recommend it. I’m so sad that the movie is now here and over but the experience was the best and the movie is definitely in my top favourites. Please go watch this! (and always stay for the secret ending, kids)
